The birth of a child is a jubilant occasion for every household. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has reminded us to share our happiness and joy with those less fortunate as well.
Aqeeqah refers to the sacrifice that is offered on behalf of the newborn on the seventh day after birth. It is prescribed to slaughter two sheep for a newborn boy and one sheep for a girl. As well as being a Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the reward equates to the amount of hair on the sacrificed animal, as mentioned by the beloved Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Aqeeqah animal sacrifices are performed in India, West Bengal, The Gambia, Ghana and Syria. The meat of these animals is prepared and served or distributed to poor & needy students, Orphans and widows.
The preferred time for slaughtering the animal is the seventh day upon birth after the baby’s hair is removed. If this is not possible, then the fourteenth day, twenty first day etc. The method of calculating seven days is for example, if the child is born on a Thursday, then the Aqīqah should be performed the coming Wednesday. The fourteenth day is the Wednesday after, so on and so forth.
Please call us if you wish for your Aqeeqah to be carried out on a specific day.
