Fidyah and Kaffarah
Fidyah (الفدية)and Kaffarah (كفارة) are obligatory payments of expiation made when a fast is broken. The donation is used to feed those in need.
Fidya is paid by individuals who cannot fulfill the obligation of fasting due to illness or old age.
Kaffara is paid by individuals who deliberately miss or break a day of fast during the month of Ramadan without a Shariah valid reason.
